    Grant Park Summer Shade Festival Recap

    On Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26, 2018, the 16th annual Grant Park Summer Shade Festival welcomed thousands of music and art lovers to Atlanta’s oldest park for two days of nonstop fun!

    Presented by The Beacon Atlanta and benefiting the Grant Park Conservancy, the festival kicked off with the annual Adams Realtors Run for the Park 5K on Saturday morning and featured an impressive lineup of live music throughout the weekend on two stages, which included unforgettable performances from Marshall Ruffin, Blair Crimmins, Christopher Paul Stelling, Rock*A*Teens, Front Porch Session Players, and Roxie Watson. Always a favorite, guests sipped, shopped and strolled through the expansive artist market, enjoyed a larger than life Kids Zone and took advantage of the exclusive VIP Lounge.

    The 16th annual Summer Shade Festival also had a diverse selection of local food trucks with offerings for all tastes, Monday Night Brewing craft beer, Bold Rock Cider, an array of cocktails and much more.  The 2017 festival raised more than 100 thousand dollars for the Grant Park Conservancy and its mission of protecting, enhancing and preserving the park while planning for its future needs. The 2018 festival celebrated Grant Park’s 135th anniversary. Details on proceeds raised at this year’s event will be announced in the coming months.

    The annual fashion forward and philanthropic event was once again hosted by Event Chairs Lila Hertz, Jeffrey McQuithy and Louise Sams.  A sold-out evening, Atlanta’s most notable gathered in Phipps Plaza in the heart of Buckhead to enjoy a high-energy cocktail reception and silent auction followed by a live auction and runway show featuring Kalinsky’s style selections from high-end designers including Celine, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, Dries Van Noten, Sacai, Saint Laurent Paris, Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik. Kalinsky is also set to open his first West Coast location in Palo Alto.

    The 26th anniversary of Jeffrey Fashion Cares benefitted Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, the Atlanta AIDS Fund (AAF), and the Medical University of South Carolina.     A Barrel of Chefs Takes Over City Winery for Giving Kitchen

    It’s no surprise that Atlanta’s restaurant community will step up when it comes to giving back. On Monday, September 24, 2018, notable personalities from popular Atlanta restaurants will join forces at City Winery for a Barrel of Chefs, a dynamic evening filled with eating, drinking and giving back.

    Hosted by Executive Chef Nicholas Anderson of City Winery, the event will benefit Giving Kitchen and feature a five-course dinner created by the combined talent of chefs:  Hector Santiago of El Super Pan; Andre Gomez of Porch Light; George Brooks of Botiwalla; Brad Smallwood of The Mercury; Jonathan McDowell of Nine Mile Station; Andy Gonzales of Steinbeck’s Ale House; Woody Back of Table & Main; Chris Wilkins of Root Baking Co.; Arnaldo Castillo of Minero; Christian Perez of City Pharmacy; and Shay Lavi of Rozina Bake House and Coffee.

    The welcome reception will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7:30 p.m. The guided experience also includes a specialty craft beer and beer cocktail by Second Self Beer Company, hand-selected City Winery wines made by Atlanta’s only winemaker Travis Green, coffee by Dancing Goats Coffee, and much more.

    It’s time to celebrate Atlanta’s oldest park, because on Friday, August 24th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Grant Park Conservancy is hosting the official 135th birthday bash in honor of Grant Park.

    Kicking off the festivities before the 16th annual Grant Park Summer Shade Festival set for Saturday, August 25th and Sunday, August 26th, the high-energy party hosted by The Beacon Atlanta will feature cocktails, delicious bites, a DJ and dynamic silent auction boasting an array of items including sports paraphernalia, getaways, tasting experiences, and much more.

    Each year, runners, walkers and strollers are invited to kick off the Grant Park Conservancy’s Grant Park Summer Shade Festival at the annual Adams Realtors Run for the Park 5K.  Hosted by Grant Park’s premiere real estate company, Adams Realtors, this year’s race will take place on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 8 a.m. and will once again feature a 5K, a free kid’s tot trot for ages 5 and under and a stroller stroll along the course.

    Adams Realtors Run for the Park 5K

    With all proceeds benefiting the Grant Park Conservancy, the course map start and finish will be at the main entrance to Zoo Atlanta. Participants ages 21 and up will receive a complimentary draft beer with a valid ID and race bib courtesy of Bill Adams and Adams Realtors at Dakota Blue.  Registration for the 5K and Stroller Stroll is $25 until August 19th. and $30 after from August 20th through race day.
