Southern Kitchen Shares How to Make the Perfect Derby Cocktails

Looking for that little something extra to make The Kentucky Derby even sweeter? We’ve got the trick thanks to a couple of fun cocktail recipes courtesy of the experts at Southern Kitchen. Whether you’re enjoying The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs or a party with friends, these easy-to-make libations are sure to add a little pep to your step during any celebration.

    Oaks Lily

    Southern Kitchen’s Oaks Lily Cocktail

    Hands On Time: 5 minutes

    Total Time: 5 minutes

    Ingredients

    1 ounce vodka

½ ounce orange liqueur, simple syrup and fresh lemon juice
    3 ounces cranberry juice
    Lemon wedges, for serving
    Fresh blackberries, for serving
    Instructions

Fill a Collins or highball glass with ice. Add vodka, orange liqueur, lemon juice, simple syrup and cranberry juice, then stir to combine. Garnish with a lemon wedge and a fresh blackberry. Serve.

    About the Recipe

The unsung cocktail hero of Churchill Downs, the Oaks Lily is perfect for those who may not be in the mood for a mint julep. The cocktail is a slightly sweeter riff on a cosmopolitan; however, the sweetness is tempered by the tartness of the cranberry juice. Simple syrup is incredibly easy to make at home. Just combine equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan and simmer until sugar has dissolved. Cool and store until ready to use. Moonshine Mule

    Southern Kitchen’s Moonshine Mule Cocktail

    Hands On Time: 5 minutes

    Total Time: 5 minutes

    Ingredients

    Crushed ice
    2 ounces unflavored moonshine
    4 ounces ginger beer
    Lime wedges, for serving

    Instructions

Fill a class to the rim with crushed ice. Pour moonshine over ice and top with ginger beer. Stir to combine, then garnish with a lime wedge. Serve.

    About the Recipe

Think of this cocktail as a Russian immigrant settling in the South. Simple but tasty, this drink replaces the traditional vodka in a Moscow mule with good ol’ Southern moonshine, an unaged white whiskey. Copper mugs are the most traditional serving glass, but you can always substitute a Collins glass instead. • Luxury Garage Sale Opens Its First Month-Long Atlanta Pop-Up Shop

Luxury Garage Sale Opens Its First Month-Long Atlanta Pop-Up Shop

Featuring an Unparalleled Selection of High-End Designer Consignment Along With Boutique Overstock, One-On-One Styling, Full Service Consignment Services, and More

The pop-up shop is in the heart of bustling Inman Park – providing shoppers a true boutique ‘luxe for less’ experience. Their team of style experts also makes personal house-calls for those looking to consign new or lightly used luxury items.  Interested consigners can also drop off their items to consign at the pop-up with no appointment at any time.

With brick-and-mortar boutiques in Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, and Seattle, Luxury Garage Sale has launched 20 pop-ups across the country.  An acclaimed lifestyle destination brand, Luxury Garage Sale was co-founded in 2010 by partners Brielle Buchberg and Lindsay Segal. With backgrounds in fashion, retail, styling and marketing, Buchberg and Segal share an unparalleled level of expertise to luxury goods. Prior to their partnering, a void existed for a curated designer retail experience and consignment boutique rolled into one.

“When Luxury Garage Sale launched, people were not as vocal about shopping consignment and consigning their items. Today, people have become smarter shoppers and are proud to share when they find a deal on a gucci purse or discover cash hidden in their closet”, says Buchberg.

“Today’s shoppers recognize that consigning is an opportunity to recycle their wardrobe in order to shop more. The concept of consigning has now become the norm, so people are consigning more regularly because they know they can buy a luxury item and reconsign later to get some of their money back.”

    LGS1

Luxury Garage Sale’s first Atlanta pop-up shop is at 240 N Highland Ave NE, Ste. C-2, Atlanta, Georgia 30307 at the North Highland Steel Apartments & Shops just off the Atlanta BeltLine and close to an array of favorite popular dining and shopping destinations.

Wild Heaven, named for the 1990 R.E.M. song “Near Wild Heaven,” has won awards for numerous beers.

Nick Purdy says “We’re incredibly impressed with the quality of beer coming out of Alabama these days and look forward to joining the community as a local-ish offering from your neighbors just to the east. As a former resident of Alabama during my four amazing years at Auburn, I look forward to many excuses to drink beer with the most hospitable Americans I’ve ever encountered.”

“It means a lot to us to cross a state line,” said Brewmaster Eric Johnson. “We know there is well-crafted beer pretty much everywhere and so when we enter a new market, we do so humbly, hoping our take on each style adds something to the conversation. We believe in what we do, and look forward to a chance to share these creations with beer lovers in Alabama.”
