A Peachy Cocktail – Atlas’ Peach Julep Recipe

Looking for the perfect summer cocktail? Atlas, located inside the St. Regis Hotel in Buckhead, created a version of a julep that has complexity and balance while still being light and refreshing.

Instead of steeping the fruit with the bourbon, the freshness of the peach flavor is captured in a more modern fashion through vacuum sealing the fruit with the Maker’s Mark. By infusing the bourbon with peaches, you can get a more consistent fruit flavor from first sip to last, without adding too much viscosity. It is perfect for a warm Georgia afternoon.

    Atlas’ Peach Julep

    Ingredients:
    · 2 oz Peach-Infused Maker’s Mark*
    · 3/4 oz Peach Syrup
    · 1/4 oz Lemon Juice
    · 2 Dashes of Peach Bitters
    · Mint Leaves
    · Peach Slices for Garnish

    Method:

Muddle mint leave and peach syrup in a cocktail shaker; add bourbon, lemon, and ice. Shake well. Double strain into a Julep cup that has been packed with crushed ice.  Garnish with Peach slices and fresh mint.

    Peach Syrup Recipe:
In a small saucepan, place one cup of water, one cup of granulated sugar and one peach, thinly sliced.  Bring to a boil over medium heat, reduce heat to low and simmer 30 minutes. Strain first through a wider mesh such as a china cap, pressing peaches to extract all juice, then double strain through fine mesh.

*To infuse Maker’s Mark Bourbon with peach; estimate one ripe peach per cup of bourbon. Slice peaches and cover in bourbon in a vacuum seal bag. Vacuum seal and let sit one day.

    Oaks Lily

    Southern Kitchen’s Oaks Lily Cocktail

    Hands On Time: 5 minutes

    Total Time: 5 minutes

    Ingredients

    1 ounce vodka

½ ounce orange liqueur, simple syrup and fresh lemon juice
    3 ounces cranberry juice
    Lemon wedges, for serving
    Fresh blackberries, for serving
    Instructions

Fill a Collins or highball glass with ice. Add vodka, orange liqueur, lemon juice, simple syrup and cranberry juice, then stir to combine. Garnish with a lemon wedge and a fresh blackberry. Serve.

    About the Recipe

The unsung cocktail hero of Churchill Downs, the Oaks Lily is perfect for those who may not be in the mood for a mint julep. The cocktail is a slightly sweeter riff on a cosmopolitan; however, the sweetness is tempered by the tartness of the cranberry juice. Simple syrup is incredibly easy to make at home. Just combine equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan and simmer until sugar has dissolved. Cool and store until ready to use. Moonshine Mule

    Southern Kitchen’s Moonshine Mule Cocktail

    Hands On Time: 5 minutes

    Total Time: 5 minutes

    Ingredients

    Crushed ice
    2 ounces unflavored moonshine
    4 ounces ginger beer
    Lime wedges, for serving

    Instructions

Fill a class to the rim with crushed ice. Pour moonshine over ice and top with ginger beer. Stir to combine, then garnish with a lime wedge. Serve.

    About the Recipe

Think of this cocktail as a Russian immigrant settling in the South. Simple but tasty, this drink replaces the traditional vodka in a Moscow mule with good ol’ Southern moonshine, an unaged white whiskey. Copper mugs are the most traditional serving glass, but you can always substitute a Collins glass instead.
