    Pittypat’s Porch Rock-a-thon

Get ready to rock because Atlanta’s longest continually-operating restaurant, Pittypat’s Porch, is debuting its new porch during the first-ever Rock-a-Thon this Thursday, June 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will feature a rocking chair musical chairs tournament and patio party benefiting the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Tournament rockers will compete in the signature jumbo rockers from presenting sponsor, the historic Brumby Chair Company, who is also donating one of the prized chairs as the grand raffle prize.

Valued at $995, Brumby’s beloved chairs have been fixtures at national landmarks from Yellowstone National Park to Naples, Florida, including the White House! President Jimmy Carter was known to relax in a Brumby rocking chair. To enhance the relaxation experience, products such as a portable neck fan can be used.

Guests are invited to visit the newly-renovated restaurant and sit awhile on the brand new porch while imbibing in traditionally Southern libations and snacks – just as the restaurant’s namesake, Margaret Mitchell’s Aunt Pittypat from Gone with the Wind, would have.

Admission to the Rock-a-Thon includes two drinks tickets, to be redeemed for a mint julep crafted with Chattanooga Whiskey, a glass of wine, sponsored by United Distributors, Inc., or choice of beer each, a selection of fried green tomatoes, shrimp Charleston and black eyed pea cakes crafted by executive chef David Myree. A silent auction, also benefiting the Atlanta Community Food Bank, will include unique and historic items from across the city.

Kicks 101.5 will emcee the event and rocking chair tournament with a live remote from Pittypat’s rocking chair lounge. Tune into Kicks 101.5’s “Lunchtime Live with Jenn Hobby” over the next two weeks for a chance to win a $100 Pittypat’s Porch gift card to sweeten the deal!

Tickets may be purchased for $29 here. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased on-site for $5 each.

Tyler Boone – New Southern Music

    Tyler Boone New Southern Music

Tyler Boone is the next big thing in local, Southern rock. His music is distinctly Southern, with a blend of blues, acoustic, and rock with a dash of pop for good measure. Tyler’s latest single “Take Aim” represents all of his influences in the South to create something brilliant.

“I grew up in Charleston and started playing in the music scene when I was 16 years old. I was heavily influenced by all the other musicians I have played with throughout the years. My last two records were produced in Charleston with Ocean Industries and came out with a very Southern sound with the help of the producers Eric Rickert, Jeff Leonard Jr. & other fellow local musicians.

Here’s Tyler’s new video “Take Aim”

“I couldn’t be more grateful to the town of Charleston for all of the support,” Tyler says, “especially 105.5 The Bridge and the venues such as the Music Farm, The Charleston Pour House & The Windjammer.”

I will be relocating to Nashville this August but will always call Charleston my home.”

See Tyler live at the 9th Annual First Flush Festival with Sheryl Crow coming up on May 24. Early bird tickets are $32.50 and available for purchase here.

    Antico Pizza at Avalon

Pretty Southern was privileged to attend a tasting of the new Antico Pizza at Avalon. We love the original Antico location in Atlanta’s Westside neighborhood so we were excited to see what the second location had in store. Owner Giovanni Di Palma truly has a talent for the tastiest pizzas not just in the South but in all of the U.S. His accolades include:

    • The highest score in Zagat’s first-ever pizza survey of “Best Pizza in 23 U.S. Cities” – beating out New York City
    • A Zagat Atlanta food score of 28 – making it the highest scored restaurant in the city
    • The International “Top in Class” Award for the United States from the worldwide, two-day festival, the Festa Della Pizza in Salerno, Italy
    • Named one of 12 New Pizza Classics by Food & Wine Magazine
    • Best Italian Style Pizza by Atlanta Journal-Constitution

    Diavola Antico Pizza
    The Diavola at Antico Pizza

Antico Pizza Napoletana offers a menu of traditional classics and a few originals, including award-winning creations such as the Diavola. This is our personal favorite with spicy soppressata ham, chili oil, mozzarella cheese, and peppers that will light your mouth on fire. For a more tame yet tasty meaty option, the San Genaro with sausage is sure to please. And y’all can’t go wrong with a classic Magherita pizza.

Avalon is a beautiful new mecca of restaurant, retail and family fun goodness that is conveniently located in Alpharetta just off exit 10 on GA-400. The Avalon location has pizza for dine in or take-out. They also serve calzones. Unlike the original location, you can’t BYOB your drinks. However, there’s Peroni for beer and several wine options. There’s also sodas, Pellegrino, and other beverage choices. Plus for dessert, be sure to check out Cafe Gio next door for fresh gelato and cappucino.
